Take a closer look at polyurea on wood

This photomicrograph of a plywood panel cross section shows the unique water resistance and extensibility of polyurea coatings. The panel was coated and stabilized with polyurea and then subjected to 25 cycles of eight hours in cold water followed by 16 hours in an oven at 145° F. Attack from the reverse side and edges produced the crack at left which is still bridged by the tough extensible coating. The crack at right, apparently present prior to coating, was filled by the system to provide a continuous protective film. Polyurea systems based on DDI® diisocyanate and modified Amine A-100 offer excellent performance in protecting and stabilizing naturally unstable fibrous substrates subject to outdoor weathering and water attack. Polyurea coatings and stabilizers exhibit an outstanding combination of water resistance and flexibility. These two vital properties, coupled with non-yellowing

high impact resistance, good intercoat adhesion, weatherability and fast dry cure capabilities, produce a unique combination particularly suited for wood finishing. One specific application which is finding widespread use is millwork (doors, door frames, windows and siding) where the industry trend is to factory, fast dry prefinishing.
