-L*-*- be pleased to learn of the publication of the "Multilingual Dictionary of Important Terms in Molecular Spectroscopy." This book was prepared by the Subcommission on Units and Terminology of the Commission on Molecular Structure and Spectroscopy of IUPAC, and its publication is a significant step toward breaking the language barrier in an important area of science. The book lists all terms of interest to molecular spectroscopists in English, French, German, Japanese, and Russian. For example, one easily finds the equivalents of the English term "wagging vibration" to be Vibration de balancement (French), Kippschwingung (German), Tateyure (Japanese), and BeepHoe KOJieôamie (Russian). The introduction to the book, by Dr. Richard C. Lord, President of the Commission of Molecular Structure and Spectroscopy, IUPAC, states that "translation of these terms can be difficult because the literal or colloquial meaning of the descriptive term in one language is likely to be quite different from that used in another." Various members of the Subcommission (chaired by Dr. Gerhard Herzberg) supplied an original set of terms in their respective languages. These terms were then commented on and added to by members of the Commission; members of the Triple Commission for Spectroscopy of IAU, IUPAC, and IUPAP were also consulted. Final organization of the material was supervised by Dr. Herzberg. The Dictionary is divided into five parts, with an introduction and alphabetical list of terms (with

corresponding translations) for each language. The book is published by the National Research Council of Canada, and is available, gratis, to spectroscopists, librarians, or interested scientists by writing to: The Secretary Division of Pure Physics The National Research Council of Canada Ottawa, Canada New Journal on Thin Films

A new journal, Thin Films, is scheduled for publication early in 1967. This journal will contain theoretical and experimental papers from pure and applied scientists with diverse backgrounds, but with common research interests. Quantitative aspects of thin films will be emphasized. Some of the topics that will be covered in the original research papers, letters to the editor, invited review papers, and conference proceedings will be transport properties, superconductivity, magnetic properties, film structure and growth, and studies of the defect solid state. Thin Films will be published by Gordon and Breach Science Publishers, Inc., 150 Fifth Avenue, New York, Ν. Υ. The journal will be edited by Allen Goland of the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and will have an editorial board of internationally known scientists. Nuclear Chemistry

Of interest to radiochemists and nuclear chemists is the report re cently published by the Panel of Nuclear Chemistry (J. W. Rasmussen, G. Friedlander, Chairmen) of the Committee for the Survey of Chemistry (F. H. Westheimer, Chairman). This report titled "Nuclear Chemistry. A Current Review," Publication 1292-C, is available at a cost of $2 from the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D. C. 20418.
