It helped that Ron Spillers, then the president of Eastman's Arkansas facility, was a committed environmentalist. But everybody gives the lion's share of the credit for the Eastman Wildlife Habitat to Don Wilson. No surprise, really. This is a man whose love of nature led him to become a biology teacher. He left teaching for a career at Eastman and it was there, in 1996, that Ron asked Don if some of the land around the plant might be used to help nature. Don needed no more encouragement than that. He started lobbying for volunteers. He reached out to community groups. He put together a plan. And before long, Don was leading groups of employees, Boy Scouts, youth clubs and others to a 500-acre plot of land that had been declared a state Wildlife Habitat. They planted trees. They made a hiking path. They built bridges. They built bird boxes. They took an abandoned church on the site and completely refurbished it. These days, the old church is often filled with people learning about the wonders of the natural world around them. Most rewarding for Don, though, is when groups of schoolchildren come. Because it turns out that the man who was a schoolteacher 20 years ago is now teaching more children than ever.

Eastman's Arkansas facility, home to the Wildlife Habitat is also a showcase for our work in the agrochemicals field. While certainly not the only Eastman plant that works in agrochemicals, the Arkansas facility is a model plant, featuring both batch reactors and continuous dedicated operations. With operations around the world, Eastman has the resources to develop compounds from initial discovery right through to commercial production. Whatever your needs, we have the facilities — and the people—to get the job done, and done right·
