As part of our interest in the synthetic utility of difluorodiiodomethane,' we sought a general route into 1,l-difluoro 1,3-dienes 3 based on addition to alkenes followed by double dehydrohalogenation (eq 1,X = I). As a preliminary study we investigated the reactions of some of the analogous dibromides (eq 1, X = Br). R
