even while you sleep· automatically in 12-24 hours. Du Pont's newest breakthrough frees you from the tedious calculations of methods development. You can reduce methods development time to 12-24 hours with DuPont's Sentinel... rather than the weeks or month it can take with ordinary LC instruments. Sentinel, the first truly automated liquid chromatograph, uses the 4-solvent, 7-separation technique and gives you more time to concentrate on experimental design, make critical analytical decisions and evaluate your data. Sentinel not only increases lab productivity, but frees you from the laborious and time-consuming methodology of optimizing complex LC separations. Sentinel improves the quality of your experiment to predict the values of the next one. It interacts with the chromatographic process and provides you with answers, not just data. Du Pont brings you this breakthrough by incorporating self-contained highly customized microprocessors in the Sentinel. These microprocessors automate the chromatographic procedures of L. L. Snyder and J. J. Kirkland involving the solvent selectivity triangle and the resulting 4-solvent, 7-step routine introduced by Du Pont in 1981. There are five steps in Sentinel: "Sample," "Scout," "Search," "Separate" and "Sort." Here's how they work: In ' 'Sample,' ' you just enter column volume and retention desired, plus the number of vials to be used. Sentinel then provides autoinjection and autosampler functions, adjusts time sequences to fit your needs... and begins to complete the experiment you've created.
Next. "Scout" runs a routine standard gradient to determine if the separation can be run isocratically. Your time is not wasted. It also predicts the mobile phase concentration for the first isocràtic experiment, to get desired retention time. ' 'Search' ' now runs the first experiment and compares the results with the predicted value. It learns from these results and corrects the mobile phase until results match your requirements. "Search" repeats this procedure as needed for each of the selectivity adjusting solvents defining the seven-step routine. In "Separate." Sentinel now runs all seven experiments, which give you the needed data for optimization... saving more of your time. "Sort" organizes and reports all the data gathered by "Separate." It automatically numbers all the peaks and highlights all changes in elution order. Sentinel automated liquid chromatograph can be added to any DuPont 8800 HPLC System. It continues the DuPont philosophy of advancing instrumentation by add-on modules. Your HPLC system is never outmoded; it evolves with your growing needs.
