log of the periodicals in the Belgian libraries, teachen histor of chemistry, and was the prime figure in the salvation of the stas relics [see THISJOURNAL, 14, 353-7 (1938)l. Dr. Timmermans has been Director of the International Bureau of Physico-Chemical Standards s i n e its creation a t Brussels in 1921; he was President of the Belgian Chemical Society 1928-29; in 1930 he presided over the first national Belgian mngress of sciences.
