positioned easily to any spectral line. The units are mounted on two parallel tracks. Pickups on the same track can be placed within 150 A. of each other; pickups on adjacent tracks can be set on lines as close together as 15 A. When both right-hand and left-hand spectra are used, two or more pickup units can be set on the same line. The instrument has 65 independent channels. It will analyze a sample for the matrix metal and up to 12 other elements simultaneously, and can be set up and calibrated for five different metals. An electronic integration sys tem converts the intensities of spec trum lines into proportional counts, which are recorded on a digital counter.

Automatic Distilling Apparatus

Spectrochemical Instrument

OMPLETELY AUTOMATIC, ROTOVAP is engineered for the safe, rapid and efficient evaporation of solutions— either dilute or concentrated by batch or continuous operation. Because Rotovap incorporates a unique aluminum spindle which rapidly rotates the evaporating flask, frothing and "bumping" of even concentrated solutions is eliminated.

The speed at which Rotovap distills is uncanny. For ex ample, it will evaporate automatically 100 ml of aqueous solu tion at 55° C in 10 to 15 minutes under the reduced pressure of an ordinary water aspirator. For low boiling solvents—such as butanol—Rotovap's speed is correspondingly high.

Resolution values close to theoretical are claimed for the instrument used as a spectrograph, as well as optical speed equivalent to that of normal spectro graphs. As a monochromator, the Quantograph is said to handle varied analytical problems at the rate of one element every 15 seconds with high resolution. The unit employs a record ing console with a sequential read-out system. 13

The Quantigraph, recently introduced by Applied Research Laboratories, is said to combine in one instrument the features of a spectrograph, a monochromator, and the ARL Quantometer. It can be used for photography of spec tra for complete analysis, for poly chromatic spectrometry in direct-read ing quantitative analysis, aiid for mono chromatic spectrometry in qualitative and quantitative analysis.

A constant temperature bath de veloped by Labline, Inc., for the ASTM turbine oil oxidation test (D 943) can also be used for kinematic viscosity tests, transformer oil oxidation tests, and other types of constant temperature work requiring temperatures to 100 e C. and control sensitivity to ±0.01 ° C. The apparatus consists of a borosilieate glass jar measuring 12 inches in For further information, see coupon on page 47 A ANALYTICAL
