Electronegativity Chart
University Pork
Many chemistry teachers have felt the need of an electronegativity scale of a size suitable for the classroom but to date no such chart has been published. The chart shown in the photograph was designed to meet this need. The values used are from L. Panling's "The Xature of the Chemical Bond," 1960. The chart was made on heavy cardboard 28 X 44 in. The letters used for symbols are style 19120 "fototype," 11/, in. high, and are readily legible from a distance of 50 feet. They were obtained from Fototype Incorporated, 1414 Roscoe Street, Chicago 13, Illinois. Two of their "Fototypette" sets a t $3.95 each contain enough letters for the chart. The "Standard Fototype" set costing $18.75 contains enough letters for several charts and refills are available. The same company has a double coated paste-up tape which is very convenient for mounting the letters and a material called Rule-pak which is more convenient than a ruline ven for making the heaw black lines.
Larger size letters are also available including a size 2l/&in. high which should be legible from all parts of the largest lecture room.
