W h a t ' s b a c k of the b o o m in tufted c a r p e t i n g ? Big reason for the success of tufted carpeting is the speed of the unique machines used to make it. These huge, 1700-needle "sewing" machines turn out up to 2000 lineal feet of 18-foot-wide carpet in eight hours which is about 15 times more than from con­ ventional weaving.
