5O00 LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPH

TIME (min) The chromatogram shows how the new built-in UV-100 detector permits automatic time programming of wavelength and range to improve an analysis. The UV-100 is controlled through the interactive CRT and keyboard of the Model 5000 Liquid Chromatograph.

Reliable, fully integrated, and simple to work with, the Varian Model 5000 is widely recognized as the best liquid chromatograph you can buy. Now, the best LC is even better. We've built-in a fully automated, variable wavelength detector, the sensitive, fast new UV-100. Now, everything in the 5000 system is automated and it's all programmed and controlled through the same helpful interactive CRT and keyboard. Time program wavelength selection, detector autozero and range The UV-100 allows you to select as many wavelengths as you need to optimize detection of all components in a run. Via simple keyboard entries, you program any wavelengths you want, in increments as small as 1 nm, from 190 nm t o 3 7 0 n m , at exactly the times you want. You get optimum detection of each component as it elutes from your LC column Your wavelength entries are part of the complete LC program stored in memory and displayed on the CRT Over 100 unattended wave length changes are possible for overnight operation or automated methods development. In addition, to improve the accuracy of your data and the quality of your report, you can attenuate peaks and rezero the baseline at any point in a run and as often as you like. Also, through program linking, you can change the 3 time constants up to 9 times during an analysis. Patented* flow cell and selectable time constants for best detection We designed the UV-100 for conventional as well as high speed LC applications. With 15 to 3 0 c m analytical columns at normal flow rates, the 4.5 microliter flow cell and 0.5 sec time constant give you

optimum peak heights and resolution. For higher throughput with shorter columns at higher flow rates, the 50 millisecond time constant preserves peak fidelity. The patented new flow cell maximizes light throughput and minimizes flow/R.I. effects through controlled optical imaging. Integrated to do more in less space We saved you important bench space by incorporating the optics, electronics, and microprocessor control of the UV-100 in the fully ntegrated Model 5000. In a single unit, that takes only 31 inches of bench space, you have uniquely-reliable single-pump ternary gradient capability, programmable column temperature control, manual or automated sample injection, and the fully programmable UV-100 detector. One keyboard controls all LC functions, from a single clock, to keep all elements of the system in perfect synchrony. The CRT monitor lets you know the immediate status of all system operating parameters and guides you in making new entries. No other LC system does so much in so little space. Further, each Model 5000 comes with full support from Varian: training courses, local service and applications assistance.
