pipet. Liquid can be expelled by reversing the direction of the knob. The pipet pump is constructed of aluminum and nylon and is available complete with one foot of 5 / i6 lncn diameter latex tubing. 12

Laboratory Ultra-High Vacuum Value Introduced The VAU-25 valve will handle pres sures of 10 " 10 m m . Hg and lower, announces the Consolidated Electro dynamics Corp. This valve is designed for use in ultra-high vacuum systems where non-contamination and the ability to be baked out are of highest importance. The company says the VAU-25 will not only seal a vacuum system from a diffusion pump without the contamina tion and inconvenience of a glass seal-off, but is also useful in handling very pure gases, as in the study of breakdown characteristics of noble gases. The unit comprises a valve assembly which becomes part of the vacuum system, and a driver mechanism which opens and closes the valve. Invented by Dr. D . Alpert, the VAU-25 is manu factured and marketed by CEC under a license from Westinghouse Electric Co. 13

Polyethylene Beakers Feature Use Under High Temperatures American Agile Corp. announces the availability of beakers molded from linear polyethylene, which are said to have a heat distortion temperature of 250° F . According to the company, these beakers are believed to be the first to withstand temperatures of this magnitude. The beakers are reportedly non-toxic, chemically inert, and unbreakable, as well as having unusually high tensile properties. American Agile says they are particularly suitable for handling caustic and corrosive chemicals, and may be placed in steam baths or auto claves. They may be obtained in capacities of 250, 400, 600, and 1000 ml. 14
