GASOLINE SURVEY

Eighty-three samples of gasoline purchased i n 13 widely separated Canadian cities in August, 1 9 2 7 , were analyzed in the Mines Branch of the Dominion Government. A report recently issued showing the results of t h e investigation indicates that the grade of gasoline marketed in 1927, while good, was inferior t o the product sold in 1926. The report states that the average distillation curves show t h a t the gasoline sold in Canada a t the time t h e purchases w e r e made "was superior to t h a t sold in t h e United States in July, 1927, a n d to t h e United States federal specifications for the United States Government motor gasoline." Lower grades were, i n general, l e s s volatile, and the higher grades more volatile i n 1927 t h a n was indicated in t h e study made in 1926. Detailed tables of analyses are given for t h e several brands, and interesting deductions a r e made in the discussion of the results. Index numbers, distillation ranges, and specific gravities of the samples are used in determining the various qualities. Comparative figures a r e given for previous years. POTASH S A L T S I N N W
