ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY
Infrared Optical Materials Thin-film evaporator is a high-speed instrument with automatic controls for both the high vacuum pumping system and the evaporation process. Fast cycling time with liquid nitrogen to less than 5 χ 10" 8 torr is achieved in the 20-inch diameter bell jar. The BA-510A Evaporator uses a 1900 liter/second oil diffusion pump ing system. Bendix-Balzers Vacuum, Inc., 1645 St. Paul St., Rochester, Ν. Υ. 409
Harshaw infrared materials transmit to 70 microns. Available as blanks or polished to your finished specifications.

Thermogravimetry A laboratory analog computer has been developed for use with the compa ny's RG and RH recording electrobalances. The Model 3100 Time Deriva tive Computer Mark II rapidly com putes the rate of change of weight with time, and records the signal for com parison with the direct weight value. For TGA the instrument is calibrated in 28 ranges from 0.2 to 2000 mg/min on a 1-mV recorder. Cahn Instrument Co., 7500 Jefferson St., Paramount, Calif. 90723 410
Pyrolysis The Model 40 Pyro-Chem Accessory, developed for use with infrared spectro photometers, simplifies infrared analy sis of carbon-filled polymers, hardened irregular plastics, and synthetic fibers. The Model 40 consists of a plug-in py rolysis chamber and power supply. A sample is pyrolyzed under vacuum at a preset temperature between 250° and 1300° C and analyzed in the same chamber without exposing the pyrolysate to the atmosphere. Firing time is reproducibly set from zero to 15 sec onds. Wilks Scientific Corp., 140 Water St., South Norwalk, Conn. 06856 411
