161st National ACS Meeting Los Angeles, Calif. March 28 to April 2, 1971 Τ h e 161st National American Chemical Society Meeting will be held March 28 to April 2, 1971, in Los An geles, Calif. The Analytical Chemistry Division has sessions Monday, March 29, through Friday morning, April 2. In addition to general sessions, there will be two special award symposia, other special symposia, and joint sym posia with the Divisions of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology, and Water, Air, and Waste Chemistry. A special Chemistry Instrumentation Award Symposium on Monday will honor F. W. McLafferty, Cornell University. This award is sponsored by SargentWelch Scientific Co. Dr. McLafferty's Award Address will be given Monday afternoon and is titled "Molecular In formation from Mass Spectrometry." Tuesday, the ACS Award in Analytical Chemistry honoring George H. Morri
son of Cornell University will be given. The symposium is titled "The Relavance of Trace Analysis in 1971" and Dr. Morrison will give his award ad dress in the afternoon. The Analytical Chemistry Award is sponsored by the Fisher Scientific Co. Other special symposia will be de voted to Analysis of Microgram (or Less) Quantities of Materials; Standard Radioactive Materials and Their Ap plications (Joint with the Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology) ; Recent Advances in Flame Spectrom etry; Determination of Air Quality; and Nuclear Techniques in Environ mental Sciences (Joint with the Divi sions of Water, Air, and Waste Chem istry and Nuclear Chemistry and Tech nology) . All of the Analytical Division symposia will be held at the Los An geles Hilton except for the Symposium

Laboratory automation is the topic for a special session planned for the 1971 Fall Joint Computer Conference to be held in Las Vegas, Nov., Nov. 15 to 18, 1971. FOR CHROMATOGRAPHIC ELUTION OR FILLING ZONAL ROTORS With a capacity of 3200 ml/hr, the Model 380 DIALAGRAD Programmed Gradient Pump is especially suited for filling zonal rotors as well as form ing liquid chromatographic elution gradients and similar applications. Almost any two component gradient can be formed by simply setting a series of dials. There are no cams to cut or multiple solutions to mix at estimated concentrations. The shape of the curve is determined by setting eleven 0 to 100% dials which repre sent the initial, final, and nine evenly spaced intermediate ratios. Thisgives 10 program intervals, each of which are automatically subdivided by five linear interpolations to produce a smooth gradient. Calibrated flow rates from 1 to 3200 ml/hr and program durations from 5 minutes to 16 days are set with positive stop switches. The DIALAGRAD will produce linear or curved gradients with equal accuracy and the program will be perfectly reproducible run after run. There are about 100,000 coded spectra in the data base which will be added to as other spectra collected are coded. Multiple searches, up to 25 at one time are permitted, helping reduce costs. Bendix Corp., Southfield, Mich. 48075, 313-352-6233, has purchased sub stantially all of the assets of Unico En vironmental Instruments, Inc., a whol ly-owned subsidiary of the Gelman In strument Co. In addition, certain other products, property, and assets of Gelman related to the Unico product line have been bought. The products are related to environmental health and include instruments for the detection, analysis, and measurement of gases, va pors, and particulates, as well as devices for the sampling and monitoring of large volumes of air. The Swedish scientific instrument manufacturer, LKB-Produkter, which is known in the U. S. through its subsidi ary, LKB Instruments, Inc., of Wash ington, D. C , has acquired the Finnish instrument company, Wallac OY. The latter firm makes automatic liquid scin tillation counters and automatic gamma counters, as well as other instruments connected with isotope analysis and radioactivity measurements. Also, a new LKB subsidiary has been estab lished in France. A new program called HELP (Honey well Equipment Leasing Plan) provides for the lease or rental of electronic test ing, measuring, and recording products marketed by Honeywell's Test Instru ments Division in Denver. Honeywell has also announced a 20% reduction in repair and calibration costs for elec tronic test instruments. This service is called Honeywell Plus-20.
