FOR
PRODUCTION
OF
ClearWater In the design and manufacture of watertreating equipment, it often becomes necessary to include a filter of some type in the line-up in order to insure clarity and cleanliness of the water going to the next step. The picture above shows a large filter installation (in this case, at an outdoor location), one of many we have planned and produced to meet particular conditions or situations.
DIFFERENT MANY
TYPES
APPLICATIONS
The filters we make may be any of the various types usually associated with the cleaning of water. Possible applications are numerous and may include such functions as removal of iron, rust, and manganese, removal of turbidity and suspended solids, clarification of limesoftened water, removal of free chlorine, organic matter, tastes, and odors, and various other special filtering require ments. Whatever filters are needed in a water-treatment system, we are prepared to produce them.

Radioactivity Gage Measures Fluid Density New gage measures fluid density, specific gravity, or per cent solids in a liquid continuously and auto matically with a full scale range as narrow as 0.05 specific gravity unit. Accuracy is reported to be ± 2 % . The gage uses a radioactive source and a detecting cell which converts radioactive energy directly into electrical energy proportional to fluid density. Gage output signals can actuate valves, pumps, and heaters in a closed-loop system for controlling the density variable in flow processing. Dept. IEC, Ohmart Corp., 2236 Bogen St., Cincinnati 14, Ohio. 74 pH Measuring Equipment Special feature of this new equipment is that you can standardize it in buffer at ambient temperature, irrespective of the temperature of the test stream. Wide range of highly sensitive and stable elec trode systems are offered. Com pletely sealed air purge case is. sup plied. Dept. IEC, E.I.L. Instru ments, P.O. Box 801, Philadelphia, Pa. 75 Thermal Conductivity Cell Thermal conductivity cell spe cifically designed to vapor phase chromatography uses thermistors as sensory elements. Available in two sensitivity ranges, the cell can be incorporated into existing chro matographic apparatus or used as a component for new equipment. The unit operates up to 240° C. Cell enclosure is stainless steel. Unit can be immersed in oil or wa ter. Dept. IEC, Largent Co., P.O. Box 9845, Houston 15, Tex. 76 Precision Testing Thermometer Weston Instruments has designed a new thermometer to permit more accurate readings than previously possible in a bimetallic type. The new Mirroband eliminates errors resulting from parallax through the combination of a mirror scale and knife-edge pointer. Except for the scale glass, the unit is encased in welded stainless steel to provide resistance to most common acids and gases. Dept. Dual-Switch Temperature Control New control is a sensitive, remote bulb temperature control designed for use in hazardous locations where explosive vapors and gases are present. Two separate switches permit switch action above or be low the set point, control of two independent circuits, and great flex ibility of switching arrangement. Dept. IEC, United Electric Con trols Co., 79 School St., Watertown 72, Mass. 78 Flow and Liquid Level Transmitter Differential pressure transmitter was designed for hard to handle fluids. Manufacturer reports the instrument works efficiently, han dling slurries of salt, metal or alco hol slops, bleaches, dye liquors, and paper pulp solutions. Instrument also measures differential pressure on fractionating columns, pumps, and filters. Dept. IEC, Taylor In strument Co., Rochester 1, Ν. Υ. 79
Nylon-Enclosed Mercury Switch New switch resists harmful ef fects of shock and splashing fluids. It is especially adaptable for pho tographic and testing applications where chemical splash is a factor. The switch, designated 7 MP1-2, consists of a glass tube mercury switch embedded in a synthetic rub ber compound and enclosed inside a nylon cap. Dept. IEC, Micro Switch Co., Freeport, III. 80 Electronic Integrator A new electronic integrator has been developed for use in chro matographic applications to meas ure the relative quantity of compo nents in gas mixtures. However, the unit is equally adaptable to other industrial processes where it is desirable to have the measured variable integrated. Count rate is up to 2400 per minute. Dept. IEC, Wheelco Instruments Division, Barber-Colman Co., Rockford, III. 81
Particle-Size Analyzer A general purpose instrument for measuring size distribution of small particles has been developed. Ac cording to the manufacturer, the
