Waste treatment call for papers The ACS Division of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry is sponsoring a symposium on "Emerging Technologies for Hazardous Waste Treatment," Atlanta, May 1-4. It will be chaired by William Tedder, Georgia Institute of Technology school of chemical engineering. Papers and presentations are invited that describe emerging technologies for treating gaseous, liquid, or solid hazardous wastes. Contributors may focus on aspects ranging from fundamental research to demonstration programs for new technologies. Emerging technologies that may be applied to a variety of waste streams are particularly encouraged. Specific applications may include waste treatment for steel and metal manufacturing; oil refining; coal processing; textile, paint, and dye production; chemical and pharmaceuticals manufacturing; and nuclear reactor and reprocessing operations. Technologies for water purification or the treat-
ment of leachates from hazardous landfills or contaminated soils are also appropriate. Emerging technologies for other wastes will also be considered. Contributors will be asked to provide draft copies of full manuscripts two weeks before the symposium. All papers will be peer reviewed by F. G. Pohland, Georgia Institute of Technology civil engineering department. An abstract of each paper should be submitted on a standard ACS abstract form no later than Oct. 1. Contributors will be notified of acceptance by Nov. 15. In addition, exhibits are invited that describe emerging or existing technologies for treating gaseous, liquid, or hazardous wastes. Exhibitors will be charged fees based upon their space and utility requirements. To request space, submit a brief summary describing the theme of the exhibit and its applications, as well as space and utility requirements. This should not ex-
ceed two double-spaced typewrit ten pages. Exhibitors will receive additional details and confirmation of space no later than Nov. 1. For submission of abstracts and exhibit summaries, or for additional information, contact D. William Tedder, I&EC Division Symposium Chairman, School of Chemical En gineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Ga. 303320100, phone (404) 894-2856 or (404) 973-3826. D
