They* will eliminate the time-consuming m a r k i o g of cores by engraving, embossing, or paint and will reduce the hazard of e r r o r s in core selection. The new core dyes are stable under humidity, temperature, and a r a n g e of molding pressures. They show their colors in all shapes and over long p e r i o d s of time, t h e company says. The manufacturers do not claim that t h e dyes will increase magnetic permeability. However, they say t h e percentage of the strong dyes is very small -\nd the small reduction of permeability is offset by the sure identification of cores, saving of time now used for other means of marking a n d -simplification of assembly procedure in t h e production of electronic equipment. paint, called sunshade blue. This paint may be applied by either brush or spray gun, and dries rapidly to make a weatherproof frosted coating, according to the manufacturers. T h e company points out, also, that textile plants, paper mills, a n d clothing factories find that the paint reduces fading and discoloration of fabrics a n d papers. Greenhouses and solariums are said to find it of value in controlling excessive growth of plants. Ice houses, packing plants, refrigerated and air conditioned buildings are reported to maintain cooler interiors at lower costs when window areas an- coated with this paint. CS 3

Ammonium Bicarbonate

Giass Paint

A technical grade of ammonium bicarhciiate. having an average ammonia content or 2 1 . 6 % has been made available by Chemical Mfg. Co., Inc. An important feature is that in t h e manufacture of baking powder and biscuits, the product leaves no residue o r taint. Volatilization by heat a n d resultant aeration are excellent, according to t h e company. Ammonium bicarbonate also finds use in dispensing and in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. It is of value to manufacturers of ammonia salts, to rubber manufacturers for inflators, a n d as a neutralizer for ammonium sulfate prepared at gas works and coke· ovens. CS 4

NATURAL BALL SEGREGATION

Here's what you see inside a Hardiiige Conical Ball Mill. Tfais uaretouched photo shows the discharge end of the mill. Notice t h a t all the large balls are in the foreground, near the feed end of t h e mill (where they belong for most efficient grinding). Write for Bulletin 17-B-41 for drv grinding; AH-389-41 for wet grinding.

A chemical development has been made by General Electric that makes possible a bond b e t w e e n silicone rubber and metals or ceramics. G-E 81267 primer, as the product is designated, is a thin, lightcolored liquid, which will bond G-E silicone rubber 81223 to glass, ceramics, aluminum, steel, tin, and copper, according to company chemists. An unusual feature of G-E 81267 primer is its ability, in most cases, to develop a bond strength greater t h a n t h e strength of t h e rubber at any stage of t h e cure. T h e development of G-E 8L267 primer now makes possible a variety of silicone rubber-to-metal molded products which include shock and engine mounts that resist both high and low temperatures. Also, company chemists point out, rubber-glass laminated structures are now possible, and GE's high-strength silicone rubber in conjunction with G-E 81267 primer can be used as an adhesive. CS 5

Sulfa P r e p a r a t i o n . Cremomethazine, a cherry-lime—flavored suspension of soluble sulfamethazine for systemic a n d urinary tract infections, a n d Sulfamethazine, a soluble, effective systemic sulfonamide in tablet form, have been released by Sharp & D o h m e , Inc. Because of its high solubility and comparative lack of renal toxicity, Cremomethazine is particularly effective in treatment of urinary tract infections. I t is useful also in pneumonia.
