NEW PRODUCTS Analytical Instruments To aid in the teaching of analytical chemistry, a compatible system of mod ular components has been designed. Each module can perform one particu lar function and can be interconnected with other modules as required to form a complete instrument. Electronic units make use of transistors and other solid state devices wherever possible. The individual units available include current source, timer, voltage source, audio oscillator, potentiostat, d.c. am plifier, d.c. meter, recorder, electrom eter, Wheatstone bridge, thermistor probe, pump, and optical absorptiometer. These units may be as sembled to permit conductometric, potentiometric, or coulometric titrations, for example. A. R. F. Products, Inc., Raton, Ν. Μ. 410

MEASURE A NANOVOLT! The new Keithley 148 Nanovoltmeter provides the most dc volt age sensitivity, highest stability and lowest noise of any commer cially available voltmeter. The 148 has 1 % accuracy at the out put terminals, input impedance of 1000 ohms on the 10"» volt range rising to 1 megohm on the 10" 3 volt range, front panel zero suppression and amplifier gains up to 108. Applications include measur ing outputs of thermocouples;

A new electrophoresis apparatus for use with paper strips consists of a power supply providing either con stant d.c. voltage (0 to 500 volts) or constant current (0 to 100 milliamperes); separate double range meters which show current and voltage; and an electrophoresis cabinet (shown above). With this equipment, sharp separation of migrating components of normal human serum on paper is accomplished in about 6 hours (250 volts); the entire procedure may be completed in 7 to 11 hours, depend ing on technique. The company also supplies accessories for starch gel and agar gel electrophoresis. Arthur H. Thomas Co., Vine St. at 3rd, P. 0. Box 779, Philadelphia, 5, Pa. 411

Far Infrared Spectrophotometer
other microvoltmeters
The Fourier spectrophotometer Model FS-520 uses an interferometer adapted for far infrared operation. The arrangement overcomes some of the main defects inherent in conven tional far infrared spectrometers by efficient use of the available energy, and by giving spectra over a very wide frequency range in one scan (10-500 c m . 4 ) . This instrument is available with many accessories. Limit Research Corp., 557 Post Rd., Darien, Conn. 412
