FIELD TESTING Spectrophotometer. Hach Co.'s DR/ 2010 spectrophotometer speeds colorimetric testing in the field and lab oratory. The laptop computer-sized unit offers powerful data-logging capabilities, factory-installed methods advanced optics, and a rugged instrument housing. The DR/2010 has a wavelength range of 400-900 nm and provides results in concentration units, percent transmittance, and absorbance units. 120

limit value of 1 ppm. The 1.75-lb unit stores up to 1000 data points, which can be downloaded to a PC or a printer. 124 Ultraviolet meter. Solar Light Co.'s PMA2100 meter accepts an unlimited number of sensors and interfaces with Laboratory Information Management Systems. Sensor developers can integrate new sensors into the PMA with the "Sensor Integration Kit." 125

Portable flowmeter. Marsh-McBirney, Inc., has introduced the FloMate Model 2000 portable flowmeter. The unit weighs 3.5 lb, has data storage/recall capability for 19 data points, and includes a user-selectable averaging feature for monitoring noisy/turbulent flows. 121

LABORATORY Cryo-trap. Scientific Instruments Services introduces the Micro CryoTrap for cryo-trapping volatiles at the front of a GC capillary column. The product is 1" long by 0.75" in diameter and mounts inside the GC oven just under the GC injection port. 122 Mercury analyzer. Buck Scientific's compact QS-4000 Automated Mercury Analyzer contains a built-in autosampler, CPU, and an RS-232 communications port. The menudriven firmware allows rapid entry of sample and QA/QC information. 123

integrates water treatment with accelerated in situ bioremediation. The reactor operates at pressures of 5-75 psi and treats 14,000-72,000 gal/day. 127 Vapor treatment system. Global Technologies has introduced the Model 1 Remedi-Cat, a small vapor treatment module for VOC-laden air from vapor extraction and groundwater treatment systems. The module has a footprint of 4' x 4'; weighs 1100 lb; and is equipped with a burner, catalyst bed, regenerative blower, and dilution control. 128

PREVENTION Life-cycle analysis software. Boothroyd Dewhurst, Inc., and TNO Institute of Industrial Technology (Netherlands) have released Design for Environment, version 1.0, software that addresses the economics and ecology of product recycling. The Windows application analyzes and optimizes the disassembly sequence of products for end-of-life recovery and analyzes the environmental impact of products using 3. value assessment metric based on materials energy use and toxicity. 126

Risk-based Corrective Action (RBCA) analysis. Groundwater Services, Inc., has produced the RBCA Tool Kit, a comprehensive software package and guidance manual package providing step-by-step instructions for Tiers 1 and 2 of the ASTM RBCA planning process. The software, produced with assistance from Mobil and the Shell Development Co,, is available in Windows and Macintosh versions. 129

SOFTWARE Finite-element analysis. Macsyma, Inc,, is now shipping Release 3.0 of PDEase2D finite-element analysis software. The new release (Windows, Windows NT) includes a scientific notebook interface and a filter for importing drawings from major CAD packages. A downloadable demo is available on the Macsyma home page (http://www.macsyma.com). 130

MONITORING Photoionization air monitor. PE Photovac's 2020 I/S Miniature Photoionization Detector can detect VOCs in air, groundwater, and soil, as well as benzene at the OSHA threshold
